Light
study in scale models no longer limited to daylight. Never
before have designers in theater, architecture and film had
the capability to create in scale models with the same precision
as in full-scale. Developments in the fabrication of mini
and micro luminaires with fiberoptic sources allow designers
and researchers to accurately model light in real-time in
scale models. Originally developed for the rigors of museum
lighting, miniature fixtures are rapidly advancing in variety
and sophistication duplicating many features of theatrical
andtraditional fixtures in application worldwide. Recently
adapted for theater and architectural scale model studies
at the University of Florida, miniature fiberoptic lighting
studies have been presented at national conferences and trade
shows.
In response to requests from designers and educational institutions,
Luxlab kit-of-parts light modeling systems have been organized
into complete
packages and are now commercially available. When applied
with architectural and theatrical scale models, the kit-of-parts
miniature fiberoptic lighting systems offer great promise
as design, research, educational and visualization tools.
